Announces the

21st Annual YOUNG PERFORMING ARTISTS COMPETITION

Sunday, February 24, 2008 at 1 PM

APPLICATION

PERFORMANCE AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Instrumental and keyboard performers must be 11 to 21 years of age as of the date of the competition, and must reside and/or study within a 50 mile radius of the church. Vocal performers must be 15 to 25, as the voice matures more slowly.

The four (4) prize winners must be available to perform at the Winners Recital on March 2, 2008 at 3 PM. They will receive their awards at that time. The Grand Prize winner will receive a $500 U.S. Saving Bond; the winners of the instrumental, keyboard, and voice categories will each receive a $300 Bond.

Accepted performers need to prepare three (3) to four (4) works totaling 15 to 25 minutes duration, from which the judges will select portions to hear. Each performer will choose the first selection, then the judges will interrupt and ask you to start another piece from your submitted list. Actual time on stage will be about 10 minutes. Performance must be solo, or accompanied by piano, organ, or orchestral instrument (No piano duets). The competition will run from 1 to 6 PM.

Performers must provide the judges one published edition of the music they are performing (no photo copies). This music is to be submitted right before competing and will be returned right after you compete.

Performers using accompanists must make their own arrangements. We regret that we cannot provide this service.

Entries are limited to 21 total participants, seven (7) in each division, and will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. The application deadline is 2/16/08. A non-refundable registration fee of $25 is required, which will be returned if you are not accepted. Checks should be payable to MEMORIAL CONCERT SERIES at the address above.

To enter the competition, please submit the application and the $25 fee.

Teachers: feel free to copy this mailing for the benefit of your students or others, and if you have students that have promise, but are not ready, encourage them to come and observe this year’s competition. It might help them get motivated for next year’s competition on 2/22/09.
