~ Music Ministry ~

The Music Ministry aims to spread the good news of faith, hope, love, and peace through the powerful medium of music. The Music Ministry is active within the church at our worship services and serves the community at-large by paticipating in and hosting of community music events, providing a home for the Virginia Handbell Consort, and by sponsoring the Memorial Concert Series.  There are opportunities for all ages to become involved in the Music Ministry.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a choral ensemble open to teenagers through adults.  The ensemble sings weekly at our traditional worship service with  a wide variety of music, including selections from the western art music tradition, folk art music from around the world, and many distinctly American musical traditions such as spirituals, shape-note singing, and shaker songs.  Rehearsals are Wednesdays from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm and Sundays from 9:15 am - 9:45 am.

Worship Band

The Worship Band performs at our contemporary worship service each Sunday. The group prepares music from throughout history, but with a contemporary flare.  Instrumentalists of all sorts and vocalists are invited to participate in this dynamic ensemble. The group is young, looking to grow and explore where the Spirit is leading. The group rehearses on Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm and 30 minutes prior to the contemporary worhsip service on Sundays.

Youth Worship Band

The Cloud 9 Youth Worship Band is a group of middle and high school students excited about contemporary praise and worship music. The group meets weekly on Sundays at 5pm to rehearse. They play music from artists such as Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin. The group performs about once a month in the contemporary worship service on Sundays. Those interested in joining can contact Josh Poe or stop by the church one Sunday at 5:00 pm and check us out!

Children's Music Ensemble

The Children's Music Ensemble meets Wednesdays at 6:30 pm following the Wednesday night dinner.  A full range of movement and music activities encourage kinesthetic awareness and music competency. The children (K - 5th grade) will sing, dance, play instruments, learn music notation, and improvise. The ensemble participates in worship several times a year.

Handbells

There are four handbell groups that rehearse as follows:
  • Coventry Bells (5-octave adult choir) rehearse Thursdays 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
  • Westminster Bells (advanced adult small ensemble) rehearse Thursdays 7:30 - 8:30 pm.
  • Knox-Wesley Bells (middle and high school youth) rehearse Sundays 3:45 - 4:45 pm during the school year (September - June)
  • Celebration Bells (ages 5-10) Wednesdays 5:00 - 5:45 pm during the school year (September - June)
Church Organ

The church's organ was designed and built in 1979 by Austin Organs, Inc. of Hartford, Connecticut expressly for the church to complement the wonderful acoustics of the sanctuary. The organ has 37 stops in four divisions, which are controlled from the three manual stop key console. The Swell Organ and the Choir-Positiv Organ are under expression and are located in the left organ chamber, while the Great Organ and Pedal Organ are located in the right chamber. The organ comprises 2168 metal and wooden pipes arranged in 38 ranks. The pipes range in size from a wooden 16-foot long pipe, to a tiny metal one the size of a pencil.
