Local Missions ~
There are plenty of opportunities to join us in serving
those in
our community. Below are some of the ways we serve:
- Each year, for one
week in January, we open our church
doors to the
homeless in Hampton. We provide them a nutritious dinner, a
place
to sleep, and a hot breakfast. We typically serve between 80
and 100 people each night. Our last week was from January 9 -
16,
2010. You may sign-up on-line
or in the Commons.
- On the second Saturday
of each month, we prepare bag
lunches for the homeless in Hampton.
- We support the Habitat
for
Humanity program on the Peninsula with financial
support and
with our time and talents. In January, we finished building a
home
near the War Memorial baseball stadium in Hampton. We will
begin building another home in 2011.
- Financially, we
support the larger Presbyterian church with
our unified mission giving. These funds support the Presbyterian
missionaries, camps, seminaries, and other programs. We also
provide support for several local organizations, such as the Downtown
Hampton Child
Development Center and the Peninsula
Pastoral Counseling Center.
- We open our doors to
local community efforts such as child
wellness checks, Relay for Life, Boy Scout Troop 29, and
provide space for Alcoholics Anonymous to meet.
- On April 26, 2009 we
had
our first Faith@Work
day. We came to church
dressed for work as we departed to our work sites immediately
after
church. Our last Faith@Work day
was on November
1, 2009. Our next day will be on October 17, 2010.
